A legacy of devotion spanning over 150 years
Shri I.D.C. Rajan, though a householder, lived his life like a sannyasi. He wore only a simple loin cloth and spent his days immersed in devotion and prayer. Family stories recall that every morning he would consume a ball of neem — a testament to his austere lifestyle.
Shri I.D.C. Rajan
During his life, Shri I.D.C. Rajan was awakened to the presence of Devi in the form of a sacred trishulam (trident). He established the worship of the Devi at this spot, which would become the spiritual foundation of the temple we know today.
He predicted that at the time of his death, his body would be engulfed in fire by itself. During his final rites, onlookers were astonished to witness this extraordinary event, and they quickly completed the remaining ceremonies.
Key milestones in the sacred journey
Shri I.D.C. Rajan established the worship of Devi in the form of a trishulam. Till the 1990s, the temple consisted only of this sacred trident — a powerful symbol of Devi's presence.
Shri Irinjalakuda Doraiswamy Narayana Iyer (I.D. Narayana Iyer), the son of Shri I.D.C. Rajan, had a deeply devotional nature from a young age. He used to frequent nearby ashrams. Driven by a desire to expand the temple, he performed the pratishta of Devi in Her vigraha swaroopam and personally designed the temple as it stands today.
The grand Kumbhabhishekam was performed in 2015, marking a significant spiritual milestone for the temple and the community.
The temple is currently managed by the Shri ID Narayana Iyer and Smt. PS Rajammal Trust, ensuring the continuation of its sacred traditions and the legacy of its founders.
